Welcome to our first dev log! Today, we’re delving into the core progression mechanics of our game: Skills and Abilities.
Skills
You improve your skills by actually using them. Combat skills grow as you fight, crafting skills as you craft, and those handy Quality of Life skills? Well, they get better the more you use them.
Abilities
Abilities are special moves or effects tied to certain items. For example, wielding a Katana might grant you the ability to Double Strike, while drinking a Poison Potion could give you a Poison Strike.
When you equip an item with an ability, that ability becomes available on your hotbar for easy access. Check out this gif to see it in action:
But here’s the twist: these items also require a certain skill level to use effectively. It’s a two-for-one deal:
The higher your skill level, the more powerful the ability becomes.
Plus, using items tied to specific skills helps level up those skills over time.
